of missing child kevin collins is reacting to a major development in this highly publicized cold case. terry mcsweeney has details. >> reporter: this is a person of interest in the disappearance of kevin collins. a man san francisco police knew mostly as wayne jackson but he had at least four aliases and that's what threw police off his trail. >> based on jackson's description, his residence on masonic avenue, his ownership of a large black dog, and his criminal history, we are investigating jackson as a person of interest. >> reporter: jackson fit the description of the last person seen talking to collins at masonic and oak streets in san francisco. jackson lived on masonic. >> it's hard to look at it and not think that this is it. this was very likely that this is what happened. >> reporter: kevin's brother found out last night that when kevin vanished, officers knew of his 1981 conviction in connection with kidnapping and molestation of a 7-year-old boy in san francisco. in february of '84, police interviewed jackson and they searched his house. >> that is my brother, mike, and myself her

no idea who they are.no. they have no io they are. >> new details this morning in the kevin collins case. san francisco police are asking for your help in finding additional information about this man. then therrien, the man kron 4 first identified as a suspect in the 1984 disappearance of kevin collins. therrien has a history of kidnapping and sexual assault involving children. in 1981 he was arrested in a fisherman's area for kidnapping and lewd acts on a child. he bailed out, then he was a no show at his court date. in 1982 he was arrested on that outstanding warrant, then he pleaded guilty to felony lou tax on a child. he was sentenced to six months in jail and three years' probation. >> therrien was also wanted in canada for a crime in 1973. police said they he kidnapped and sexually assaulting two children. if he was arrested and charged, but once he was released, he fled canada. if police say he was never caught because, in part, he used so many different names. >> send francisco's chief grewg suhr says that kevin collins case has long haunted him and his department. he says th
